Trouble with Noise in Your Classroom?
Transform Your Space with Better Sound
Having good room acoustic in Educational building is extremely important. This is recognised by the government in the Document Building Bulletin 93 which look exclusively at Acoustics in schools and identifies the need for the correct reverberation time in different rooms for different purpose with Education buildings such as schools. The table identifies the purpose of the room, for example a classroom or sports hall and stipulates a Reverberation time required for that space.
When designing a Educational building the design team and architects should be working to BB93 when making decisions on size and location of certain spaces and also in the interior materials used within the space.

Many Educational spaces can also me multifunctional. For example a sports hall can be used as an exam hall, a dining hall can also be used a dram studio. There are many considerations when calculating the acoustic design of a school.
It is also important to consider the materials used in an Educational building when designing the acoustic absorption specification. A sports hall will need to receive an acoustic treatment that may be able to receive impact from sports balls or pupils. In other areas they may need to be easy clean or installed out of reach of pupil.
Acoustic absorption can also the used to improve the aesthetic of a space by adding different textures and colours. Absorption in Educational spaces is most commonly treated using acoustic absorption panels. Our most popular absorption panels for schools are Class A 50mm fabric wrapped absorption panels. These panels can either be suspended from the wall or ceiling or direct bonded to the wall or ceiling. Suspending the panel gives a better performance for acoustic absorption by creating a deeper void and also more surface area of absorption with the rear of the panel exposed.
